All teams designed an upgrade to the expanded 50 MGD International Wastewater Treatment Plant in which 20 MGD of the treated wastewater received advanced water purification with membrane filtration, reverse osmosis, and UV-disinfection (or advanced oxidation). Teams calculated the land area in Tijuana that could be irrigated with the reclaimed water to stabilize slopes, provide urban greening, and reduce erosion.
